Benefits of Injectable Fillers

Filler injections can reduce some signs of aging such as wrinkles below the mouth and “parentheses” lines around the mouth. Patients should maintain realistic expectations regarding the outcome of these procedures, however.

Although injectables can make a big difference, all will deliver only temporary results and will require repeated injections in order to maintain the results. Additional signs of aging such as loose skin and sagging facial muscles will not be improved through the use of injectable fillers.

Common Treatment Areas

Injectable fillers can be applied almost anywhere in the face to create balance among your features or restore lost volume. The most common treatment spots for dermal fillers include:

  • The nasolabial folds (creases that run from either side of the nose to the lips)
  • Marionette lines (creases that run from the edges of the lips down to either side of the chin)
  • The cheeks to correct a hollowed look
  • Under the eyes to resolve under eye bags
  • The nose to improve symmetry or shape
  • Deep creases in the forehead, usually in combination with BOTOX®

The Injectables We Offer

During your consultation, one of our injectors will be able to recommend the best filler for your needs. However, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with some of the basics.

  • Restylane®: Restylane® is a filler that contains hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar found in our skin cells. This component helps your skin retain hydration, so the filler can deliver long-term improvements. Restylane® is one of the most popular fillers for smoothing out contours or creating volume in specific places

  • Restylane® Refyne™: Restylane® Refyne™ uses specially formulated hyaluronic acid to soften moderate nasolabial folds and marionette lines that run from the corner of your mouth to your nose and your chin.

  • Restylane® Defyne™: Restylane® Defyne™ also uses hyaluronic acid to smooth deep nasolabial folds, the laugh lines near your mouth, as well as marionette lines.

  • Restylane® Silk: Restylane® Silk is filler that enhances your lips by adding volume and smoothing wrinkles around your mouth.

  • Restylane® Lyft: Similar to Restylane® Silk, Restylane® Lyft can be used to augment your cheeks, improve facial contours and treat facial wrinkles and folds.

  • JUVÉDERM®: Like Restylane®, JUVÉDERM® contains hyaluronic acid to mimic the role of collagen and improve your skin’s hydration. However, JUVÉDERM® contains more hyaluronic acid and has a smoother texture than Restylane®, making it ideal for smoothing out clusters of fine lines, as the filler will spread from the point of injection.

  • JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA®: An injectable gel, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® enhances cheek volume for a more youthful look.

  • JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC: JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ is the first and only FDA approved Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler that corrects facial wrinkles and folds for up to 18 months! Castellano Cosmetic Surgery is proud to be one of the first practices in the US to offer this treatment.
  • JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA®: JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® is another injectable gel, one that’s designed for lip augmentation and can help lessen the appearance of smile and laugh lines.

  • BELOTERO BALANCE®: Made with hyaluronic acid, BELOTERO BALANCE® is a flexible gel that treats moderate to severe wrinkles and lines around the mouth by meshing with your skin’s tissue.

  • RADIESSE®: RADIESSE® is made of calcium hydroxylapatite, a natural compound found in the body. Fillers comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite tend to be heavier than others, making them ideal for filling moderate to severe creases in the lower face, such as the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. RADIESSE® also stimulates collagen production, providing a long-lasting benefit.

  • Sculptra®: Sculptra® is a synthetic filler made of poly-L-lactic acid. This helps stimulate your skin’s collagen production, restoring the inner structure of the skin for more youthful-looking contours and a smoother complexion. Most people benefit from a brief series of Sculptra® injections scheduled around 3 weeks apart.

  • KYBELLA®: KYBELLA® injections contain a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, which your body naturally makes to help your intestines absorb fats. KYBELLA® can be injected under your chin to kill fat cells and eliminate a double chin.

Before Your Filler Treatment

Your consultation at our office is an important first step in your med spa experience. During your consultation, a licensed injector will discuss details about your injectable filler treatment with you and answer any questions you may have about your expected results.

Consultations at our medical spa typically cover a range of topics:

Your Candidacy

Although dermal fillers are one of the most common nonsurgical cosmetic treatments for men and women alike, not everyone is an ideal candidate. If your concerns would be better addressed by other treatment options, we can make suggestions for the best course of action.

Your Goals

We will listen carefully to your appearance goals and help you understand the results you can expect from dermal fillers. Injectable fillers may be enough to attain some people’s goals, while others may require additional procedures.

Your Preferences

While dermal fillers are fairly straightforward, you’ll still be able to customize your treatments based on your personal preferences. Certain filler options can produce results that may be more natural-looking and longer-lasting than others.

Additional Procedures

Injectable fillers are frequently combined with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections for a more comprehensive approach to your appearance needs. Many people also combine fillers with minor facial surgeries like lip augmentation or eyelid surgery.

Injectable filler pricing depends on the treatment area, product/technology used, and number of sessions. For current starting points, see our Pricing page. If you are combining your fillers with surgical procedures, you’ll also be given information on cosmetic surgery financing that can help make your treatments as affordable as possible.

Your Timeline

While dermal fillers can be the perfect touch-up before a big event, it’s important to time your appointment well since some people experience minor swelling or pinkness in the days immediately following their injections. Our staff can help you plan a date that works best with your existing schedule.

Because each person’s goals and concerns are unique, your exact consultation may vary from the above description. However, you can expect to leave your consultation feeling much more prepared for your injectable fillers.

Because injectable fillers are a nonsurgical treatment, there is minimal preparation involved. To help minimize your chances of developing bruising at the injection sites, avoid blood thinners, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, for 1 week prior to your appointment. Because smokers tend to bruise more easily than nonsmokers, it’s also recommended that you refrain from tobacco. Not drinking alcohol for about 2 days prior to your appointment may also minimize your chance of bruising.

People who bruise easily may wish to take arnica tablets for 1 day prior to your appointment, continuing the tablets for another 5 days after getting your fillers. Arnica is a homeopathic treatment used to prevent bruising and is available for purchase over-the-counter.

Dermal fillers are performed using precise injections into the areas of the face that require treatment. Usually, no anesthetic is used because the treatment is not painful. However, depending on your preferences and the area of treatment, your injector may apply a topical numbing cream.

If you plan to return to work or another activity straight from our medical spa, you may wish to bring some makeup with you in case the injections leave any pinkness on your skin. You can return to your normal routine immediately following your appointment.

Dermal Filler Cost

The charges associated with your dermal fillers will vary based on the filler type and your injection sites. The exact costs are different for each individual and depend on which filler you choose and the treatment area(s).

Your costs for dermal fillers will include:

  • Your aesthetician’s injection fee
  • The cost of the product
  • Initial consultation and any follow-up care

Your decision to get injectable fillers is private and should be made in your own time. Most men and women who get dermal fillers feel that the benefits of looking younger for as long as possible continue to pay off as they move forward in their professional and personal lives.

Castellano Cosmetic Surgery offers several flexible payment choices for your injectable filler costs:

  • Cash, personal check, cashier’s check or money order
  • All major credit cards, including Discover and American Express
  • Financing options through CareCredit®

If you’re considering getting dermal fillers but are uncertain about whether they may be affordable for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us online today. With today’s financing options, you may be surprised at just how affordable your injectable fillers can be.

Recovery and Results

For most of our patients in Tampa, injectable fillers require virtually no recovery time. Patients will be instructed not to lie down for the first few hours, but for the most part, you should be able to resume your normal routine immediately. Results can be immediate depending on which products are used.

There are a few side effects you should keep in mind when planning your treatment. Immediately following your appointment, you may experience one or more of the following:

  • Pinkness: Depending on your skin sensitivity and the exact areas treated, you may develop slight temporary pinkness surrounding the injection sites.

  • Tenderness: While there is typically little to no discomfort involved in getting dermal fillers, you may experience some tenderness of the treated areas for the first few days.

  • Bruising: Some people develop minor temporary bruising around the injection sites. This can easily be disguised with makeup until the bruising fades. Taking arnica tablets 1 day prior to your appointment and for 5 days after can help prevent bruising.

Usually, there are no special post-treatment medications or creams for injectable fillers. However, you should avoid consuming alcohol for 24 hours after your appointment. You are also advised to refrain from vigorous aerobic activity for 24 hours following your treatment.

Because each person’s needs are unique, fillers may last longer for some people than for others. In general, however, you can plan on a basic timeline depending on the exact type of filler and the extent of rejuvenation.

  • HA Fillers: Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®, typically last from 4 to 6 months. However, some types, such as JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus, are thicker and may last up to 9 months.

  • RADIESSE®: RADIESSE® can last from 9 to 15 months, making this filler a popular option. However, keep in mind that creating your ideal results may require two or three syringes of product. Choosing a smaller amount of product for economic reasons may actually cost more in the long run, as the results will not last as long.

  • Sculptra®: Sculptra® stimulates your own collagen, meaning the product itself isn’t what maintains your results. Rather, your own boosted collagen production can provide a long-lasting benefit. Many people experience results for up to 2 years following a series of Sculptra® injections. However, this depends on your own age, health and physical makeup. People in overall good health usually see longer-lasting results than those who smoke or have a poor diet.

While some people choose injectable fillers as a touch-up treatment before a big event like a wedding or reunion, more commonly, men and women incorporate fillers as a regular treatment to maintain their appearance. You may wish to schedule bi-annual or annual appointments to preserve your youthful look.

With Other Procedures

Injectable fillers may be combined with other outpatient procedures for a mini-makeover. BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used to treat different types of wrinkles on the face, particularly those occurring in the brow and eye areas. Skin treatments such as a chemical peel or laser resurfacing also may provide very complementary results to those achieved through injectables alone.
